Laser therapy: There are different types of laser therapy that can be used to treat glaucoma, such as selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) and laser peripheral iridotomy (LPI). These procedures are typically performed on an outpatient basis and can be effective in reducing IOP.
Surgery: If eye drops, oral medications, and laser therapy are not effective, surgery may be recommended. There are different types of glaucoma surgeries, such as trabeculectomy, tube shunt surgery, and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS). These procedures aim to create a new pathway for aqueous humor to drain out of the eye and lower the IOP.
It is important to note that glaucoma is a chronic condition that requires ongoing management and monitoring by an ophthalmologist. Regular follow-up appointments are necessary to ensure that the treatment is working and to make any necessary adjustments.
